Community And Economic Opportunity

Coordinated Efforts That Multiply Our StrengthMain Street Sign

Local municipalities throughout Wisconsin are investing time, energy and money into their communities, aided by WEDC community development initiatives like the Idle Sites Redevelopment and the Wisconsin Main Street Programs. Whether through downtown development or the support of minority-owned businesses, our state’s economic success relies on flourishing urban centers, as well as small and midsize communities, which is why these programs remain among our top priorities.

Thriving Wisconsin Communities

Preserving our history and maintaining vital commercial districts are critical to creating a strong and economically prosperous Wisconsin. Robust business activity depends on public spaces that welcome social engagement, which is also key to retaining and attracting the talent necessary to drive business growth. WEDC’s community development programs help municipalities throughout Wisconsin realize their full potential.

Healthy Minority Business GrowthMarketplace 2015

Working side-by-side with Wisconsin’s minority chambers of commerce, WEDC helps spur minority business growth by providing operational assistance and funding through the Minority Business Development Program. WEDC also hosts the annual MARKETPLACE conference, the largest event of its kind in the nation focused on skill development, networking and procurement opportunities for minority-, women- and disabled veteran-owned businesses.
